I'm here, thanks to Q! It feels like I should do something special (or at least not boring) for my first entry, but. It's late and maybe I will feel less stressed about dreamwidth if I just bite the bullet and get this over with. So!

I am totally psyched about being just plain old [personal profile] caitie. Not that I wouldn't love to come up with an interesting, creative, and/or mysterious username someday, but considering I have been Caitie everywhere to everyone for my entire online existence, that's probably not in the cards for me.

I stopped by BN tonight and grabbed Bloodhound. It eluded me at first (even though I must have been looking right at it), probably because I was looking for a cover more like the last one. I haven't cracked it yet, but here's hoping I have an easier time adjusting to the city-speak. And that Beka's overly convenient thief friends don't annoy me as much as they did last time.

But first I need to brush up on my fractions and proportions and Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally and all that other fun stuff so I can help my littlest sister study for the CRCT (our state's version of the No Child Left Behind test you've got to pass to progress to the next grade level) this weekend and hopefully earn herself a high enough score that she won't have to take an extra math class next year. Fractions by hand are the worst; I have been totally defeated by a couple of these problems, even though I swear I'm doing them right. Except not. *sigh*

Still running, although April got off to a bad start thanks to me straining the muscles in the fronts of my thighs, which was so not fun. And my shoes are becoming more of a problem the more intense my workouts get. I think my feet are swelling a disgustingly insane amount? I read that swelling in the feet during exercise is pretty normal and usually linked with swelling in the hands, so I tested that theory by putting on a ring that's a touch too big before I started running. By the end of my workout it was stuck on my finger, and that sucker was not coming off. I managed to remove it about half an hour later, but it was still snug. I am like the Hulk or something! But seriously, I am going to have to do something about new shoes soon. I will feel ridiculous in size 10s, but it seems like my feet need the extra extra space. As it is, I'm not going to be able to wear sandals this summer without painting my toenails dark red because I've got four sad little black toes.

I need a userpic! Or maybe I should just go without like I did my first few months on LJ.

Fractions by hand are the worst

I honestly don't understand the purpose in making children know them: all calculators of any worth have a fraction key, all cellphones of any worth have a calculator and 90% of everyone has a cell phone.

Although what my 8th grade math teacher said about fractions that really made them click for me was this: The bar in-between the top and bottom number actually translates to "top number divided by bottom number" (he was very good about translating Mathese into English for things like that.)

I always thought it was weird - I suck at substraction and division, but when it came to fractions that's what I did better. ::boggles::

I'm happy to see you here. :)
